The Cormorant Fishing Boat

$40.00

I lived in Gifu Prefecture, Japan for 3 years, in the northernmost tip of Gifu City. I got to know the Nagara River very well, and was transfixed by ukai - the use of trained cormorants to fish the sweet ayu in the river. Hence my surprise when boatbuilder and prolific author Douglas Brooks came out with this book, detailing his time in Gifu with one of the last cormorant-boat builders still working, the then 85-year-old Seiichi Nasu. The story, detailed drawings, numerous pictures, and more really put you there with Douglas during his time there building this 42 foot craft.
